Meanwhile, Anubis is introduced by coming to take an old woman who has died into her next life. She offers to help him by giving him a special coin that he pulls from the moon and tells him to not just to give this one away like he did the last one. Later that night, he meets the third Zorya sister up on the rooftop. That evening, Shadow plays a game of checkers with Czernobog who bargains with Shadow that if he loses he’ll let the man bash him in the head and if Shadow wins he’ll go with Wednesday. Wednesday seeks their alliance and Shadow still isn’t clear on why. World, and many more grace us with their presence and Shadow realizes quickly that he’s in the middle of something ancient and powerful.Īs they journey on, the men stop in Chicago to visit the Zorya sisters and Czernobog, some of the other old Gods. Nancy, The Jinn, Anubis, Bilquis, Media, Mr. Shadow quickly comes to realize that his new job puts him right in the middle of a war between Gods. However, she’s still a rotting corpse, so she’s a little ripe but really strong. Turns out, the coin Mad Sweeney left with Shadow, who left it with Laura’s grave, had some magic in it and ended up bringing her back from the dead. Laura Moon-that’s right, his dead wife-comes to his rescue after a massive beating from Technical Boy. Shadow buries his wife and packs up the house, and after discovering that she was cheating on him with his best friend.
He has no idea what he’s really getting into, though.
